New Executive Editors


Christy Adams and Joshua Neumann
NOA welcomes two newly-appointed editors of The Opera Journal:

Dr. Christy Thomas Adams joined the musicology faculty at the University of Alabama School of Music in 2019, having previously held faculty positions at the Yale School of Music, Bowdoin College, and Bates College. She received her Ph.D. with distinction in Music History from Yale University. Originally from Baltimore, MD, she also holds undergraduate degrees in Music, Art History, and History. As a scholar of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Italian opera, Dr. Adams’ broad research interests include the history and theory of opera, reception studies, cultural history, the history of media technologies, and the theoretical and conceptual issues of performance and mediation. Dr. Joshua Neumann is a Research Fellow in digital musicology at the Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur | Mainz (Germany), having previously taught at the University of Florida and Shenandoah University. He holds both a PhD in Historical Musicology and a Graduate Certificate in Digital Humanities from the University of Florida, a MMus in Music History from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, and a BMus in Music Performance (percussion) from Gordon College, in Wenham, MA. In his current position, Dr. Neumann contributes to the Centre for Digital Music Documentation and the National Research Data Infrastructure for Culture in Germany through international, interdisciplinary, and inter-institutional collaboration and consultation.
