Committees

Many of the NOA's activities are overseen or organized by its various committees.  For more information about a committee, or to become involved, please contact the listed chair.

Advertising

Charged with the solicitation of advertisements for the convention program and other publications. Chair:

Annual Giving/Planned Giving

Charged with the development of an annual giving campaign and planned giving.
Chair:

Board of Directors

Elected by the membership to determine policy and oversee the administration of the organization. Board members are assigned positions on all NOA committees.

Archives Committee

Committee is charged with establishing and maintaining a permanent archive of the organization.  Maurice Wheeler, archivist.

Chamber Opera Composition Competition

Charged with the operation of the Chamber Opera Composition Competition, publicizing the competition, including evaluation of scores in the preliminary round, and suggesting improvements to the competition.

Children's Opera Project

Charged with developing initiatives and promoting opera for children and opera by children.

Collegiate Opera Scenes

Charged with running the annual Opera Scenes Competition, inlcuding screening applicants, selecting finalists, and administering the final competition at the convention.

Charged with planning the annual convention, and proposing sites for future conventions.

Endowment Trustees

Charged with the oversight of NOA endowed funds, making recommendations for investments, and for developing the endowments.

Helping Opera Workshops (H. O. W.)

Charged with generating articles, conventions sessions, and other networking opportunities to assist directors of opera workshops.

Legacy Steering Committee

Charged with the operation of the NOA Legacy Project, including selection of honorees, fund raising events, and Legacy Career Development Grants.

Membership

Charged with planning membership campaign and promoting attendance at the convention

Nominating Committee

Constitutional committee charged with nominating candidates to offices and board of directors positions. Chaired in odd years by the past president.

Charged with judging the submissions to the Opera Production Competition and making recommendations for the improvement of the competition.

Charged with developing an NOA opera directing internship program.

Pianists and Conductors

Charged with promoting annual convention sessions for pianists and conductors, and recruiting pianists and conductors to NOA.

Sacred in Opera

Charged with leading exploration of sacred themes in opera and providing convention activities for the project.

Scholarly Research

Charged with issuing the call for papers, reading, and selecting the winner of the Scholarly Papers Competition; with issuing the competition announcement, reading and selecting the winner of the biennial Dissertation Competition, and with issuing the call for posters, reading abstracts and selecting presenters for the annual convention Poster Session.

Charged with development of strategic, long-range plans for NOA, and with monitoring the implementation of strategies.

Vocal Competition

Charged with running the annual vocal competition, including assisting with selection of preliminary-round judges, selecting finalists, conducting the finals, annoucing winners, and suggesting improvements to the competition.
